Bolonia Spain 26 March (late entry)

This was a free trip that I happened to see at the base newspaper and was provided by the Fleet and Family Service Center for new arrivals as well as visitors on a space available basis. I showed up about 10 minutes before departure time, waited in line with 3 other retirees and were lucky enough to be included on the list. It was a beautiful and sunny day, a perfect day to explore the ancient Roman ruins of Bolonia situated on the shores of the Gibraltar Straits across from Africa. It was about a 1.5 hours trip form the base so I just took a nap since I've driven this road a few times going to Tarifa which is the next town after Bolonia to catch the ferry to Morocco.
Took pictures of the wind turbines along the way. Tarifa is an ideal place due to the strong winds that blow across the Gibraltar Straits from Africa and is a prime destination for surfers, windsurfers and kiteboarders alike. It also has pristine beaches where the Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light) starts and stretches along the Mediterranean Sea and has several campsites and lodging facilities. For a brief history lesson, Bolonia is one of three important Roman excavations in Andalucia, along with Italica outside Sevilla and Acinipo near Ronda.
One of the park employees explaining the layout of the village. She also served as the tour guide and accompanied us throughout the village. To the right is a display of assorted coins recovered from the site.

Part of the outer wall that surrounded the village; remains of an aqueduct which carried water from the nearby hills.
A flat rock for drying fish or a big paella pan?; decorative top for the pillars.
The basilica.
The West Gate and the main boulevard.
The baths.
The tour group inside the theater stage; sections of the theater.
